These relate in particular to citizens – Sweden and other EU citizens residing in the UK and the British here in Sweden. These provisions mean that their situation will not change much and Swedes, who currently live in the UK, can live, work, study and retire there will continue to be able to live, work, study and retire. The agreement covers all issues that affect citizens in their daily lives, namely social security and living benefits, such as social security, health care and medical care, pensions, unemployment insurance, student scholarships and various forms of family benefits. Recognition of training certificates and other professional qualifications is also covered. The UK will be able to enter into trade agreements with third countries; However, the customs union would significantly reduce the UK`s ability to have very different trade relations with them, particularly with regard to products. There would be more opportunities for the UK to offer different conditions for trade in services and sectors such as public procurement. The agreement also provides for a transitional period, which will last until 31 December 2020 and can be extended by mutual agreement. During the transitional period, EU legislation will continue to apply to the UK (including participation in the European Economic Area, the internal market and the customs union) and the UK will continue to contribute to the EU budget, but the UK will not be represented in EU decision-making bodies. The transition period will give businesses time to adapt to the new situation and the new era, so that the British and European governments can negotiate a new trade agreement between the EU and the UK.
 After an unprecedented vote on 4 December 2018, MEPs ruled that the British Government was not complying with Parliament because it refused to give Parliament full legal advice on the consequences of its proposed withdrawal terms.  The focus of the consultation was on the legal effect of the „backstop“ agreement for Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom with regard to the CUSTOMS border between the EU and the United Kingdom and its impact on the Good Friday agreement that led to the end of the unrest in Northern Ireland, including whether , according to the proposals, the UK would be certain that it would be able to leave the EU in a practical sense. The agreement defines the goods, services and processes associated with them. Any provision of goods or services legally put on the market before leaving the EU may be made available to consumers in the UK or in the EU Member States (Article 40-41). The withdrawal agreement also contains provisions for the United Kingdom to leave the Convention setting the status of European schools, with the United Kingdom bound by the Convention and accompanying regulations on accredited European schools until the end of the last academic year of the transition period, i.e. at the end of the spring semester 2020-2021.  The same conditions of competition concerned taxation, environmental protection, labour standards, state aid and competition. These have been replaced by less specific and non-binding commitments in the political declaration to impose these principles in any future trade agreement between the EU and the UK. On 15 November 2018, the day after the agreement and the support of the British government were presented, several members of the government resigned, including Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for leaving the European Union.  This triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on european Union, which defines the procedure for the withdrawal of an EU Member State, thus opening a two-year countdown to withdrawal.
